Grimsby stifles Niagara's comeback, gains 3-1 victory
The Niagara Riverhawks almost clawed their way back from a three-goal deficit, but the Grimsby Peach Kings managed to pull out a 3-1 win in the end.
Grimsby led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Peach Kings' Curtis Jacques scored at 4:07 in the second period to put Grimsby up 3-0.
The Peach Kings were led by goalie Jeremy Currie, who finished with 26 saves while allowing one goal. Currie certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 1.98 entering the contest.
Grimsby was led by Derek Rotter, who racked up one goal. Rotter scored 2:05 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Grimsby. Joshua Kozielski assisted on the tally.
Niagara was unable to stop the Peach Kings from sending pucks towards the net, and Grimsby eventually piled up 48 shots on goal.
Michael Konkle also scored for Grimsby. More assists for Grimsby came via Liam McCrory and Christian Gaetano, who each chipped in one.
The Riverhawks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Peach Kings to score on any of their eight power plays. Niagara was held below its usual level of production. The Riverhawks put an average of 3.6 pucks into the net per game.
Niagara was led by Kyle Robertson, who scored the team's only goal. Robertson scored 5:49 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Grimsby. Alex Cipriano provided the assist.
Grimsby ended with nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major. The Peach Kings ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Andrew Brown was ejected from the game. Scott Charanduk rejected 45 shots on goal for the Riverhawks. Niagara incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
