Grimsby rips Port Dover, 5-1

The Grimsby Peach Kings were firing on all cylinders against the Port Dover Sailors, and when the final buzzer sounded Peach Kings emerged with a 5-1 win.

The win by Grimsby clinched the best of seven series at 4-2.

The Peach Kings were led by goalie Jeremy Currie, who finished with 33 saves while allowing one goal. Currie certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 1.2 entering the contest.

Grimsby was led by Jeromy Hopkins, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Hopkins scored on the power play 13:08 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Grimsby. The Peach Kings had gotten the advantage when Port Dover's Michael Boateng was sent off for cross checking. Nicholas Purves provided the assist.

Grimsby put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Sailors to score on any of their four power plays. The Peach Kings' offense rang up 41 shots on Port Dover's net.

Grimsby also got points from Garnet McComber, who also registered one goal and one assist and Brady Cranwell, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Grimsby also had goals scored by Aidan Board and Brennan Smith, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Grimsby were Carson Macrae, Joshua Celebre, Kyle Kozielski, Joshua Kozielski, Matthew Jambrosich, and Curtis Conrad, who contributed one each.

The Sailors forced Grimsby goalie Currie to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

The Peach Kings incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Port Dover's Mathew Venturelli stopped 36 shots out of the 41 that he faced. The Sailors incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
