Long Beach was looking to extend their four-game winning streak Saturday night against WCHC rivals, Northridge. In the first period, Tyler Gealy (Long Beach) and Vincent Sepe (Northridge) each stopped everything the teams could throw at them and held the game at 0-0.

Half-way through the second, Northridge capitalized late on a Tanner Bleyle penalty to put the Matadors up 1-0. Blake Sundy wouldn’t let the lead stand for long as he tied the game up, from Kody Ichinaga and Evan Rusch, a mere 56 seconds later.

The final period got off to a quick start with Northridge scoring a few minutes in and Long Beach matching it a few minutes later. As both teams locked down their defense, it looked as though the game was heading to overtime. With just under five-minutes to go, Northridge scored off a screen from the point to put them up 3-2. Although Long Beach would get a few scoring chances late, they would eventually fall short and see the end of their win streak.

Long Beach is now 2-2-0 in WCHC games and 4-2-0 on the season as they host Chapman next week.
