One Game Short of WCHC Title
Game Results:
Semi-Final: Long Beach State 5 VS UC Santa Barbara 1
Final: Long Beach State 3 VS Cal State Northridge 4
The Long Beach State hockey team (LBSU) came up one goal short of seeing their season end with a WCHC championship. Congratulations to Cal State Northridge (CSUN) on winning another title for their program. It was a tightly contested battle all the way until the final horn. Long Beach was looking to make it 3 in a row against their rival, but CSUN got revenge and defeated the beach in the final for the second consecutive season.
The game was back and forth from the drop of the puck, with both teams getting on the board in the first period. LBSU took over the game for a stretch in the middle period and was able to grab a lead on a goal by Luke Miller. Northridge would respond, 5 minutes later to even the game back up at 2. The game remained tied heading into the 3rd period. CSUN would seize control of the game with 10 minutes remaining on a goal scored by Zachary Carne. Both goalies played extremely well, saving 35 shots apiece. The Beach had chances late, but ultimately couldn’t score the equalizer.
It was one of the best, and most memorable seasons in Long Beach State history. The team will return next fall with their eyes on continuing success.
