This past weekend, the Long Island Gulls U16 team headed to Cromwell, CT for the East Coast College Cup tournament.  The U16 National bracket had four divisions of six teams each, mostly from the northeast.

The Gulls started off on Friday with a win against Apple Core, 3-1, avenging their 5-2 defeat on September, 13th.  The game featured a goal and an assist each from Jackson Koblick and Marko Cohen, and an empty net goal by Dan Kramer.  Vincenzo Capezza was strong between the pipes with several spectacular saves.  The Gulls outshot Apple Core 20-16.

Game two against Mid-Fairfield didn’t end as well as game one.  After coming out strong and building a 3-1 lead in the first half, the Gulls let their opponent back into the game in the second half, allowing three goals and eventually lost, 4-3.  The first- half scorers were Mike Muschitiello with two goals and Cohen with the other.  Chris Garbe had two assists.  The Gulls were outshot 21-19 for the game.  Jason Posner took the defeat in goal.

Game three on Saturday night was played at the Ingalls Arena at Yale University.  The Gulls faced the CT Wolfpack split squad.  The Wolfpack are a select team entirely made up of prep school players and almost all 98’s.  The Gulls held on for most of the first half.  They weathered the onslaught giving up just one goal through the first 18 minutes.  They even had a chance to tie the game with a breakaway (by Garbe) that was steered aside by the Wolfpack goaltender.  Late in the first-half, the Wolfpack scored two and it was no contest from there.  Four goals in the second half ended the game, 7-0.

Game four was a consolation contest vs. the (Delbarton Prep) Frozen Tide.  The Gulls had a decent first-half, outshooting the Frozen Tide 15-7 but could only manage a 1-1 tie.  In the second half, the Tide turned it on, outshooting the Gulls 16-5 and outscoring them 2-0.  The Gulls took several penalties in that half, leading to a powerplay goal for the Tide.
