MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State Men’s Hockey team has always done well in the classroom. On the ice, the Beavers have seen some great seasons and some to be desired. Despite the ups and downs on the ice, the one thing that has always held steadfast was the educational component. The Beavers have consistently held a team GPA above 3.0 and have had numerous players recording perfect 4.0 GPA’s. This spring semester proved to be one of the best in the programs history as the Beavers obtained a 3.43 overall team GPA. This is a sharp jump from the fall semester which had its lowest GPA in the past 10 years at 3.16.

“I am so proud of the boys.” Said Head Coach Wade Regier. “The adversity of these guys had to go through was tough on everyone. I am not surprised our guys would step up to the plate and accomplish their studies in this fashion, but to do it in the current education climate was even more impressive. As much as we all love the wins on the ice, the wins off the ice are far more reaching. The amount of times I get calls from employers doing a reference check is something I am the proudest of.”

The education component is the most important part of any intercollege sport. At the end of the day, programs are judged not by how many banners they raise in a rink, but by how many players they graduate. This was always the goal of former campus adviser, the late Lisa Eriksmoen. Her legacy will be left through this program for years and included the prestigious “Lisa Eriksmoen Scholastic Player of the year” awarded to the player with the highest cumulative GPA.

The Spring Semester Report Card highlights are:

Team GPA – 3.43

4.0 GPA – 7 Players

3.0 GPA and Above – 18 Players

Presidents List (3.8-4.0) – 11
