MENEGHIN AND TEPPER HAVE THE LADY HAWKS OUT TO A 3-2-0 RECORD
Suffering just their second loss of the season to UNH on Saturday, the Montclair State Women's Hockey team is off to their best start to in its existence. Their only two losses came on the road against two very strong UNH and UConn programs. Both ACHA programs have a few years of growth and development under their belts, so it is to be expected that the Red Hawks may lack the experience that a few elder programs may have.
Overall the team looks much better in terms of , not only skill, but overall knowledge of systems and game organization. This season they have three total wins against Columbia, Rutgers, and Rowan. In those games they outscored their opponents 21-4. In their losses they have been outscored 15-2. As you cans ee there's quite a disparity in teams in our immediate area, as opposed to teams from the New England region. Offensively Britt Meneghin and Alex Tepper lead the way, scoring 16 of the teams 23 goals. Newcomer Mikaela Schultz and veteran Jess Coyne have also contributed offensively to the teams cause. Goaltender Emily Olshefski has been sharp in net, cutting the goals against by 3/4 overall to this point of the season as opposed to last season.
The teams progress in a short time is no small feat. With several new prospects for next season, the team looks to be in good shape moving forward. With over 18 letters of interest the class of 2016 should provide the skill and talent the team needs to move towards their goal to compete against the New England schools.
This weekend the team squares off against the Montclair Blues U19 team which actually has a few prospects interested in coming to the school next season. The game will be at Floyd Hall Arena this Sunday at 8:10PM.
