Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Gatineau Mustangs defeated Ottawa Canadians in a shootout 5-4 (4-3 SO).

The shootout lasted for 26 attempts between the teams. Ottawa Canadians' shootout goals were scored by Stephen Fullum, Jamie Molinski, and Tom Kesheshian. In addition to the clincher, Gatineau Mustangs got shootout goals from Bruno Leblanc, Benoît Lavigne, and Raphael Grandmaison.

Gatineau Mustangs got the win on the strength of a great game by Joey Mazerolle, who had two goals and one assist. Mazerolle scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 8:30 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Gatineau Mustangs. Gatineau Mustangs had gotten the advantage when Ottawa Canadians' Dominic Plaschy was sent off for delay of game.
