UWO, RMU-Maroon Look To Punch Tourney Tickets

UW Oshkosh and Robert Morris University-Maroon are both looking to continue the battle for a top spot in the NCHL tournament.  UW Oshkosh will travel to Michigan Tech needing to earn 3 points to earn their birth into the conference dance.  RMU-Maroon will host Northern Michigan University on Friday and Saturday and Lewis University on Sunday; RMU needs 6 points to clinch their entrance to the tourney.  Both U.P. teams are seeking to accumulate points that will keep them in the race for the final tourney spots.  

 

#12 UW Oshkosh Heads North To Michigan Tech

 

The Titans (9-4 NCHL, 11-5 Overall) and Wolfpack (3-5, 8-6) have a history of hard fought series as they have split series regularly over the past few years.  This year is an up-year for UWO as they already have more wins than any previous season and they’re ranked #12 in the region.  Michigan Tech is also having a good year as they too have received votes in the regional ranking.  This series will be sure to please as the teams face-off in the history Dee Stadium.

 

UWO has been led in scoring by Jason Johnson (14 G, 12 A), Owen Ahlstrom (8 G, 14 A), and Matt Edwards (11 G, 10 A).  In net their goaltending duo has been solid.  Eric Vela and Tony Francois have a combine GAA of 2.69 and they’ve turned away 92.7% of the shots they face.  Jacob Tresnak (12 G), Eric Keljo (11 G), and Tyler Szabo (7 G) lead the Huskies in scoring with 19 points each, with Stephen Comperchio (3 G) not far behind with 18.  Cason Sjerven has seen the lion's share of the work in net for Tech with a 4.94 GAA and .880 save percentage.  Cutter Hurst has also 9 games for the Huskies and has a 3.45 GAA and .925 save percentage.

 

#7 RMU-Maroon Hosts Northern Michigan University

 

Robert Morris University-Maroon (4-2, 16-9)and Northern Michigan University (2-4, 3-16) are both looking to get back on track after getting swept last weekend.  RMU played #3 Lindenwood strong, taking them to OT on Saturday, while NMU played strong against #13 Northern Illinois University. RMU and NMU also have a history of tight competition and this series should be no different.

 

The Eagles are led in scoring by Tyler Teglia (8 G, 15 A), Joey Daniels (10 G, 9 A), and Jordan DeYoung (5 G, 12 A).  In net, Andy Poetzinger and Mike Czupryn have split time in net posting a joint 3.00 GAA and .915 save percentage.  For the Wildcats Gavin Porter (14 G, 9 A) and Matthew Husak (8 G, 9 A) have been doing most of the scoring.  Zach Kooi has been doing most of the work between the pipes for NMU by posting a 5.61 GAA and .850 save percentage.

 

#7 RMU-Maroon Hosts #8 Lewis University

 

Cross-town rivals RMU-Maroon and Lewis University (9-1, 17-3) play the first game of their split-weekend series on Sunday.  There is no love lost between these programs.  The Flyers will be looking to regain some confidence after ending the first half of the season with a devastating sweep to Davenport University.  The Eagles on the other hand still have a chance at the top spot in the NCHL standings and a win on Sunday will help them achieve the #1 seed in the tournament.  

 

Lewis University is led in scoring by Tanner Tood (14 G, 24 A), Nicholas Johnsen (18 G, 13 A), and Patrick Nelson (7 G, 19 A).  Their goalie tandem of Cason Kirkpatrick and Austin Julvezan have posted a joint GAA of 4.07 and .903 save percentage.
