2026 Semifinals Preview: PNW v. Marquette and CUW v. Marian
Semifinal #1: Purdue University NW v. Marquette University:
Purdue University NW and Marquette University meet in the postseason for the first time in Semifinal #1. In the regular season, these two teams met the first weekend of December and PNW came out with a series sweep, winning game one 5-2 and game two 5-3. The sweep helped even the overall series between them to 3-3, with one PNW victory coming in overtime. As their record, the average score of those six games is almost identical as Marquette holds a 4.67 to 4.33 goals a game advantage.
If Purdue is going to make it back to the Championship game, they will need to keep an eye on Jack Rose. During their regular season series he posted three goals and one assist. Another player to watch is Chase Breslin who scored one goal and assisted on another.
For Marquette to get back to their first Championship game since 2022 there are two players on PNW that will require their attention. Leading the way is Brayden Mitchell. While he only scored one goal during the regular season, he exploded for four goals against UW Oshkosh in the Quarterfinals. Also to be aware of is Jacob Behnke who tallied two goals back in December.
Semifinal #2: Concordia University WI v. Marian University:
Concordia University WI and Marian University meet for the third time in the postseason and first time since 2024 semifinals. During that meeting CUW came out victorious in a 6-3 decision. It will have been almost three months since their regular season matchup. Back during November’s home and home series the home team took the wins. Both games were close as they were decided by one goal.
CUW and Marian have a long history, with 14 regular season games played, along with the three postseason battles. Marian holds a dominant 10-4 advantage over the course of those regular season games. They also have scored almost two more goals per game than CUW, 5.1 goals for to 3.4 against. However, in the playoffs Marian is 2-1 against CUW, one win coming in overtime, and the goal spread is much closer, 4 goals for to 3.67 against.
Getting back to the Championship game will be no easy task and Marian will need to keep attention on Charles Emme. During the regular season series, he scored three goals and assisted on another. Not to be overlooked is Garret Wilderman, who netted two goals and added one assist back in November.
CUW has two Marian players to watch for, Easton Nick and Anthony O’Neal. Nick put up two goals against them in the regular season and added a goal and three assists in their Quarterfinal game against DePaul University. The second player, O’Neal, had an assist in the regular season and two goals and an assist in the Quarterfinals.
