Day 2 Notes from HSBNC
Due to rain, two of the four games scheduled for today had to be postponed till tomorrow. The weather is doing its best to keep these teams from playing, however thanks to coordination between tournament staff and field staffs alike, two games were able to be played today--both included a ton of action.
The first game of the day featured one of the more impressive outings you will see from Florida’s starting pitcher, Josh Mallitz (Ole Miss commit). Both teams played superb defense where both teams combined for just one error. Errors were hard to come by for Team Florida thanks to the effort of their starting pitcher. Although Nevada was able to push 1 run across, Josh was dominant in his outing, allowing just 4 runners to reach base. Mallitz was able to strike out 11 hitters over 5 innings of work. Florida won the game 4-1 which brought their record to 2-0 in pool play. Tommy White had a delivering blow at the plate, shooting a line drive up the middle to score the final run for Team Florida. This win puts Florida in the driver’s seat for Pool B, leaving them feeling comfortable heading into the final day of pool play.
In today's second game, New York was able to pull off the upset win against Louisiana winning 5-2 behind a stellar outing by starting pitcher James Vaughn (Duke commit). Vaughn pitched his way through five innings of work holding down LA's powerful offense, which ended up being a complete game for Vaughn because the game was shortened due to weather. The final two games of the day were postponed due to rain, but will be made up tomorrow. The schedule for tomorrow’s matchups is TBD for now but more information will be released ASAP.
