Swamp Bats Use Late Hitting and Clutch Relief work in 7-4 Win over SteepleCats
North Adams, MA—The Keene Swamp Bats of the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) beat the North Adams Steeple Cats, 7-4, in North Adams.
Keene moves to 4-2 on the season, and North Adams sinks to 1-7.
Taylor Williams (Washington State/Camas, WA) picked up the victory with outstanding relief work, going four innings. He struck out four while only giving up one run, walking one as well. Frank Morris (Seton Hall/Levittown, PA) was tagged with the loss.
Westmoreland, NH native T.J Ferguson (Franklin Pierce) got the save by getting the final batter of the game.
The game was tied up at three by an RBI single by designated hitter David Lyon (Kent State/Emporium, PA), who drove in Derek Toadvine (Kent State/Springfield, OH) in the seventh. Toadvine went 1-3 with three stolen bases and two runs scored.
In the following inning, catcher Tom Conley (UMASS-Amherst/Quincy, MA) drove in Michael Burress (Georgia Southern/Marietta, GA) to take the lead with an RBI single. Conley was 1-4 on the night with a run scored as well.
Conley came around to score on a two-run triple by third baseman Colby May (Georgia/Guyton, GA), which gave opened up a three run lead. May was 1-4 on the night with a run scored as well.
The next Swamp Bat game will be on Tuesday evening at Alumni Field against the North Adams Steeple Cats at 6:30.
