PJHL WEEK IN REVIEW - NOV. 13

We're just one week away from the half-way point in the 2017-18 PJHL regular season schedule and the battles in every division are heating up.

In the East, the Lakefield Chiefs have broken the tie on top of the Orr Division to lead Uxbridge by two points, and Napanee has a commanding 10 point lead on top of the Tod Division. 

In the North, the Stayner Siskins are perfect through 19 games and their rivals from Alliston are still only six points in arrears in the Carruthers and the Walkerton Hawks have caught the Mount Forest Patriots as the two are tied for first in the Pollock. 

In the South, Tavistock stopped Ayr’s 16-game winning streak as Ayr, Tavistock and Woodstock are separated by just two points on top of the Doherty Division, while the Glanbrook Rangers have matched Stayner with 19 straight wins to start the season in the Bloomfield.

In the West, The Essex 73’s and Lakeshore Canadiens are tied for first in the Stobbs, while the Lambeth Lancers lead the Dorchester Dolphins by three points in the Yeck.

NORTH CONFERENCE: CARRUTHERS DIVISION
The Stayner Siskins entered the week with 17 wins in 17 games but the Midland Flyers took them into overtime on Thursday night in Stayner before Liam Kendall scored for the Siskins to keep their streak alive with 18 straight wins to start the season. Stayner beat a tough Schomberg team on Saturday night to extend their streak to 19. Schomberg has tied Caledon for third spot with 19 points, as Stayner (38) and Alliston (32) continue to pace the division.

NORTH CONFERENCE: POLLOCK DIVISION
The Walkerton Hawks have caught the Mount Forest Patriots at the top of the Pollock standings as the two teams are now tied with 30 points. Last week Walkerton beat Mount Forest 7-4 and hammered Goderich 11-2, while Mount Forest bounced back after their loss to the Hawks with an 8-2 win over the Hanover Barons. The Wingham Ironmen picked up two big wins last week 3-0 over Kincardine and 7-1 over Hanover to move past the Mitchell Hawks into fourth, three points behind the Kincardine Bulldogs.

EAST CONFERENCE: ORR DIVISION
The Lakefield Chiefs have regained top spot in the Orr Division after winning all three games they played last week in convincing fashion: North Kawartha 7-1, Georgina 5-1, and Clarington 8-3. The Uxbridge Bruins sit in second place after two big wins of their own last week as goaltender Ryan McConkey came up big in back to back games. The Bruins beat Clarington 3-2 on Friday night, before ending the Port Perry Mojacks’ eight game winning streak on Sunday with a 3-0 shutout.

EAST CONFERENCE: TOD DIVISION
The Napanee Raiders have extended their winning streak to 16 games after back to back shutout wins over Picton 5-0 and Gananoque 11-0. The Amherstview Jets and Port Hope Panthers played a home and home on the weekend and it was the Jets upsetting the Panthers 5-3 in Port Hope on Saturday night, but the Panthers bounced back on Sunday to win 7-4 in Amherstview. The win on Sunday was an important one for Port Hope as it moved them back into second place ahead of the Picton Pirates.

SOUTH CONFERENCE: BLOOMFIELD DIVISION
The Glanbrook Rangers have now won 19 straight to start the season after beating the Niagara RiverHawks 7-2 on Wednesday. The second place Grimsby Peach Kings were 2-0 last week as were the Port Dover Sailors who moved past Dundas into third place in the division. The Dunnville Jr. Mudcats were 2-1 last week and have moved past Niagara for fifth place in the division. Hagersville’s 6-4 win over Niagara on Saturday pulled them out of a tie with Simcoe and they are now sitting in seventh.

SOUTH CONFERENCE: DOHERTY DIVISION
The Tavistock Braves ended the Ayr Centennials’ 16-game winning streak on Thursday in Ayr by defeating the Cens 3-2. Tavistock went 3-0 last week and are just two points behind Ayr for first place in the Doherty Division with two games in hand, but they are also one point behind the Woodstock Navy-Vets who were 2-0 last week and have won six straight. All three of these teams have winning percentages over .800 on the season as they near the half-way point.

WEST CONFERENCE: STOBBS DIVISION
The Essex 73’s were 2-0 last week and have won five straight to move into a first place tie with the Lakeshore Canadiens as the Canadiens were 1-1 last week, losing 5-3 in Petrolia before hammering Wheatley 7-1. Essex beat Wallaceburg 13-2 and Blenheim 5-4 and Essex and Lakeshore meet on Tuesday night in Essex in one of the biggest games in the Stobbs Division in the first half of the season. The Amherstburg Admirals started the week with wins over Dresden 4-3 OT, and Blenheim 5-2 before dropping a 4-0 decision to Mooretown on Sunday as the Admirals have moved back into fifth, while Blenheim has dropped into eighth.

WEST CONFERENCE: YECK DIVISION
The first place Lambeth Lancers only played once last week, beating Thamesford 11-2 as they extended their winning streak to 11 games. The two teams chasing Lambeth were both 2-0 last week as the Dorchester Dolphins beat Thamesford 6-1 and Mt. Brydges 5-4 in overtime, while the Exeter Hawks shutout North Middlesex 8-0 and beat Lucan 5-2. Lambeth now leads Dorchester by three points and Exeter by seven. It was a tough week for the fourth place Thamesford Trojans as they were 0-2 and were outscored 17-3. Meanwhile, the Aylmer Spitfires had their best week of the season, going 2-1 with wins over Lucan and Port Stanley and a one-goal loss to North Middlesex. North Middlesex is now tied with Thamesford as they have passed Port Stanley after the Sailors were 0-2 last week.
