Hopkins would add his second goal of the game in the 3rd period for the Violets but Stony Brook would go on to score three more goals to take the 9-5 victory.

On Saturday, the series shifted to The Rinx on Long Island. NYU had a strong defense going into game two against the Seawolves. With shots 14 shots on junior Patrick Cavanaugh in the opening 20 minutes of the game, the first period ended scoreless.

During the second period, Stony Brook was able to score three goals, two of them on power play goals. The second period ended with Stony Brook in a 3-0 lead.

The third period opens with another Stony Brook goal, but NYU answered back with a goal scored by Freshman Jake Drucker assisted by freshman Tyler Ekstein and sophomore Brian Taccone.

“Of course, it was not the result we wanted,” Drucker said. “But, being able to contribute something positive was a really good feeling. I was extremely excited to get my first NYU goal, but the bigger team picture is obviously much more important, and we have a lot of work ahead of us.”

Stony Brook took a 5-1 win Saturday against the Violets, finishing the weekend.

“I think we’re still finding our identity as a team right now, but I also think we’ve got a lot of potential,” Orne said. “Hopefully we can learn from our mistakes when we play Liberty this weekend.”

The Violets host Liberty University November 16th and 17th at Chelsea Piers at 9pm.
