New York, NY – The NYU Violets face two hard losses against Stony Brook University during the home and home series this past weekend.
Friday’s game was heated as soon as the puck dropped with Stony Brook scoring the first goal of the night two minutes into the first period. NYU sophomore, Alex Peck, was quick to tie the score 1-1 with a shorthanded goal assisted by freshman, James Long. Despite a strong defensive play by the Violets, the first period ended Stony Brook leading 3-1.
After another four goals scored by Stony Brook in the second period, NYU put sophomore, Aidan Levi-Minzi, in the net. With another three goals scored in the third period, NYU falls to Stony Brook University 10-1 at Chelsea Piers.
“They are a great team, and it showed during that Friday night game. They were quick with the puck and always seemed to find open lanes,” Aidan Levi-Minzi said, “The second game we came back strong and gave a much better fight.”
Saturday, NYU traveled to Stony Brook’s home ice at The Rinx. Stony Brook kicked off the evening with two goals early in the first period. Determined to catch up, junior Brandon Ritchey put the puck in the net. Senior, John Kowalewski, grabbed the assist.
Stony Brook opened up the second period with another goal. Followed by a few penalties by the Seawolves and the Violets, freshman Adam Peck, assisted by junior, Tiger Yan, and sophomore, Frankie Horowitz, scored with just five minutes remaining in the second period.
With redemption on the mind, the Violets played a strong offensive and defensive third period, hoping to tie the game. Despite their efforts, NYU lost to Stony Brook 3-2.
The Violets will be hosting University of Rhode Island February 8th and 9th at Chelsea Piers. Puck drops at 9pm.
