NYU Violets Fall to Drexel

By Hunter Estevez

New York, NY — The NYU Violets fall to Drexel University’s Dragons in weekend home and home series.

The NYU Violets had a rough start to Friday’s game against the Drexel University Dragons when they kept finding themselves heading to the box. Drexel took advantage of NYU’s four penalty kills in the first period, scoring a power play goal to end the period with a one goal lead. Drexel net the second goal of the night at 10:46 in the second period but the Violets were determined to catch up. At 16:51 NYU had their first goal of the night scored by sophomore Parker Richards with assists to Brian Taccone and Jake Drucker. NYU went into third period trailing 2-1.

NYU was unsuccessful in tying the game for much of the third period. With the hope that another man on the ice could help NYU tie the game, the Violets pulled their goalie with 2:19 left on the clock. An unfortunate empty net goal by Drexel gave the Dragons a two-goal lead and one final empty net goal with one second on the clock ended the game, Drexel 4-1.

Saturday the Violets headed to the Class of 1923 Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to take on the Dragons in Drexel’s final home game of the season. NYU was intent on finishing the weekend with a win and started strong with a goal from Scott Mulligan that was then matched by the Dragons. First period ended with a 1-1 tie. NYU freshman Adam Peck was the only scorer of the second period, giving NYU the hope of a one goal lead going into the third.

Less than a quarter into the final period, sophomore Isaac Ceh scored, giving the Violets a one goal advantage. However, the Dragons quickly reversed the roles when two goals put them ahead, 4-3. With about two minutes on the clock and a Violet in the box, NYU pulled their goalie, leaving an empty net but even men on the ice. With 22 seconds left in the game, Drexel scored the last goal of the evening on an empty net, finishing the weekend off with a win 5-3.

NYU will head to Delaware this coming weekend to play the University of Delaware Blue Hens.
