NYU Splits Road Series Against Delaware
NYU Splits Road Series Against Delaware
By Julian Robinson
The NYU Violets split their last road trip weekend against the University of Delaware Blue Hens in what would be two high scoring affairs, winning the first game 8-3, and dropping the second game 7-3.
Following a perfectly executed breakout, Freshman forward Adam Peck scored his first goal as a Violet 8:26 in the first period, with helpers coming from Scott Mulligan and Frankie Horowitz. At 2:26 of the second period, sophomore Frankie Horowitz cleaned up an Alex Peck rebound to make the score 2-0, followed by another gritty goal from sophomore Alex Peck at 9:24 in the period. An onslaught of second period penalties would cool the Violets hot streak down, allowing the Blue Hens to score three unanswered goals in the process. However, the Violets offense exploded in the third period, with five different players tallying a goal (Freshmen D James Long, Junior F Scott Mulligan, Junior F Kohl Donovan, Freshmen F Jake Geller, and Sophomore F Parker Richards). Jake Geller’s third period goal was his first as a Violet. Junior goalie Adam Salisbury secured the win, stopping 36 of 39 shots in the process.
Following the first game’s high scoring theme, Game 2 of 2’s first period was an offensive battle, with the Violets and Blue Hens trading two goals each to make it 2-2. Both goals were scored by Frankie Horowitz, with assists from Mulligan and Richards on the second goal. The second period proved to be successful for the Blue Hens, who notched another two goals against Junior goalie Patrick Cavanaugh, and extended their lead to 4-2. Another Blue Hens goal in the third period was quickly answered by Junior forward Brandon Ritchey, scoring from Isaac Ceh and Brian Taccone five minutes into the final period. Two more Delaware goals would widen the margin to 7-3.
The Violets aim to avenge their division rivals at home this upcoming weekend, where they take on the Blue Hens yet again on Friday March 1st and Saturday March 2nd at 9pm.
