Oakland ACHA DIII Hockey is pleased to announce that Matt Stirling, has been named as the teams new head coach. Stirling served as the team’s assistant coach last season which went all the way to the National Championship game.

"It is an honor that the program has trusted me to move the team forward and I look forward to getting back from the summer break ready to go.  I am thankful for the knowledge I have gotten from previous coaches and I hope that as a staff, we can build on the success of the past to help grow the program to new heights." Stirling said.

Stirling played his junior hockey with the Metro Jets (NA3HL) and his college hockey at Oakland from 2013-2016. This includes a season with the Oakland ACHA DIII team and two seasons with the Oakland ACHA DI team.

Oakland is currently in the midst of its most successful stretch in program history, which includes a regular season record of 152-27-14. Oakland also won the ACHA DIII National Championship in 2016 and had an appearance in the National Championship game this past season.

The success is something Stirling wants to build on, as he works with his new staff to bring another National Championship to Oakland.

"We have the pieces in place to be extremely successful in the upcoming years.  It is a matter of guys putting in the work to get back to that final game.  I’m excited to see where we can grow and have already started putting guys in place to help us succeed.  I look forward to the opportunity and am excited to be back." Stirling added.
