Oakland ACHA DIII Hockey is pleased to announce that Robert Lauro has been named as an Assistant Coach for the upcoming season. Lauro served as the team’s Assistant Coach two seasons ago and was Captain during the team’s National Championship victory in 2016.

Lauro said the following about his return and the program: “I’m honored to be a part of continuing the tradition here that has been built by Zack Warson, Troy Barron, and Pete Gibb.  First, I’d like to thank them for everything that they have done to make Oakland Hockey what it is today.”

Lauro played his college hockey at Oakland from 2011-2016, amassing 135 regular season points while playing in 156 games for the Golden Grizzlies. His playing career also includes multiple National Tournament appearances.  His enthusiasm for the game has led him back to Oakland as he shared his thoughts on the upcoming season: “I’m excited to get things going with this group.  We have a lot of returners who are expected to step up and have an increased role on the team.”

Oakland is currently in the midst of its most successful stretch in program history, which includes a regular season record of 152-27-14. Oakland also won the ACHA DIII National Championship in 2016 and made an appearance in the National Championship game this past season.

Looking to continue on the success of the past, Lauro finished by saying, “Every season, our goal is to win the final game.  We came one win short of that last year.  I know that this group has the potential to get back and win that final game if they put the work in.  It’s going to be a great ride and I can’t wait for the season to start.”
