On Friday, the Blades played their first pre-season game against the visiting Mississauga Chargers at the Sixteen Mile Sports Complex. Mason Zebeski and the game’s "Junkyard Dog" award winner, Jack Churchill led the charge for the Blades with 2 goals apiece, both helping the team get an early lead in the explosive 3 goal first period that also saw Gleb Akimov score. The Oakville players threw their weight around in the 5-0 win, with plenty of physicality on display throughout the game, including a huge hit from Jacob Crisp to start the second period.
Despite the Blades defencemen limiting Mississauga’s offence to only 15 shots throughout the game, Gavin McCarthy was very solid in net, recording a shutout. McCarthy made a couple of big saves throughout the game, including a fantastic save against a streaking Mississauga player who managed to slip by the Oakville defence towards the end of the 2nd period. Among other players who helped secure the win by adding some helpers were Constante, Brown, Crisp, Taylor, Wells, McKenna, and Wang with 2.
The team put in a very strong showing in their first preseason appearance and will look to continue their dominance when they travel to the Iceland Arena in Mississauga for more pre-season action on August 27th for a 7:45pm puck drop.
