Amherstview rides Paquette to victory over Port Hope, 2-1
Trpy Paquette had a standout game with 44 saves, and the Amherstview Jets beat the Port Hope Panthers 2-1.
Amherstview was led by Andrew Fullerton, who grabbed one goal. Fullerton scored 12:50 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Amherstview. Brett Yake provided the assist.
The Jets stifled Port Hope's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Panthers were unable to stop Amherstview from sending pucks towards the net, and the Jets eventually piled up 51 shots on goal.
Cody Jodoin also scored for Amherstview. In addition, Amherstview received assists from Ryan Poirier and Zach Masterson, who contributed one a piece.
Port Hope put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Amherstview to score on any of its eight power plays. The Panthers' offense operated below they season average. Port Hope puts an average of 3.5 pucks into the net per game. The Panthers forced the Jets goalie Paquette to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots.
Port Hope was led by Dylan Baxter, who scored the team's only goal. Baxter scored 36 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Port Hope. Connor Turland picked up the assist.
Amherstview incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Branson Schell recorded 49 saves for the Panthers. Port Hope incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
