Clarington outlasts Lakefield, 5-3

The Clarington Eagles and the Lakefield Chiefs were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Clarington made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-3.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Brodie Myers's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

The win by the Eagles clinched the best of seven series at 4-0.

Brad Down was all over the ice for Clarington, as he had two goals in the win. Down's tallies came at 9:51 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Lakefield and on the power play 2:37 into the third to make the score 3-2 Lakefield.

Lakefield's power play was ineffective against the Eagles' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Clarington's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Lakefield power plays.

Others who scored for Clarington included Jake Carter and Braden Gray, who scored one goal each. In addition, Clarington received assists from Chris Ludwinski, Dylan Howorko, Brent Hambly, Jarod Hollister, and Cody Kean, who contributed one each.

The Eagles were unable to stop the Chiefs from sending pucks towards the net, and Lakefield eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

The Chiefs were led by Sweeting Bryce, who racked up one goal and two assists. Bryce scored 4:05 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Lakefield. Eric Oosting assisted on the tally. Lakefield also got points from Oosting, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Lakefield also got a goal from Travis Brault as well.

Connor Visca recorded 29 saves for Clarington. The Eagles incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors. Lakefield's Zach Wainman stopped 21 shots out of the 26 that he faced. The Chiefs incurred 34 minutes in penalty time with 12 minors.
