There were four games last week in the Allan Cup Hockey League and the defending champions from Stoney Creek have risen to the top of the standings. The Generals have earned 11 of a possible 12 points through 4 games.

On Friday in Thorold, the Generals came out on top with a 5-4 win against the Athletics after Jarrett Konkle scored for Stoney Creek with under three minutes left in the third period to secure the win. Matthew Sagrott earned the “W” for the Generals and Thorold’s Steven Dol led all scorers with 3 goals.

The other game on Friday night saw the Brantford Blast win their home opener 8-4 over the Dundas Real McCoys. Dundas held a 3-2 lead early in the second period before Brantford scored 5 straight goals to take a commanding lead on the way to their 8-4 win. Charlie Stephens led the way for the Blast in a big way with 3 goals and 4 assists on the night and Brett Leggat made 29 saves in net for the Blast.

On Saturday, the Hamilton Steelhawks travelled to Whitby to take on the Dunlops. Hamilton led 3-1 after the first period and 5-1 just 7 minutes into the second, but the Dunlops responded with 7 of the next 8 goals to take the game 8 to 6. The win moves Whitby to 3-1 on the season, while the loss has the Steelhawks at 1-2 to open the season. Corey Tamblyn led the way for the Dunlops with 2 goals, including the game winner with less than 2 minutes left in the game. Jason Guy earned the win for the Dunlops in relief of starter Matthew Cadieux.

The final game of the weekend took place in Stoney Creek as the Generals hosted the visiting Dundas Real McCoys. The game was a back and forth affair, with the two teams tied after two periods 3-3. Neither team was able to score in the third period or overtime, so the game was settled in a shootout. The Donati’s, Justin Donati scored the winner in the 4th round of the shootout, leading the Generals to the 4-3 win over the Real McCoys. Dave Brown made 44 saves for the Generals to pick up the win, while Mike Mole suffered the loss in net for the McCoys, despite making 53 saves on 56 shots.
