This week the Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) is announcing our 2016-17 Awards recipients and today we are pleased to announce the 2016-17 OHA Players of the Year. The OHA Senior AAA Player of the Year is Chris Risi from the Allan Cup Hockey (ACH) Thorold Athletics.
OHA SENIOR AAA PLAYER OF THE YEAR – Chris Risi, Thorold Athletics (ACH)
Chris Risi (Thorold, Ontario) completed his second full season this year with the Thorold Athletics as their top scorer and led the Allan Cup Hockey league (ACH) with 11 goals and 29 assists for 40 points in 23 games. Risi more than doubled his point total from the previous season and was named ACH Most Valuable Player for 2016-17. That wasn’t the only league hardware Risi earned last season as he was also named the league’s Most Gentlemanly Player with only 6 penalty minutes on the year.
Risi’s number 9 has been retired by the Thorold Blackhawks, after playing for the team for 5 years and winning a Sutherland Cup in 2005. After finishing his junior hockey career with the Blackhawks, Risi moved on to Mercyhurst College (NCAA – Atlantic Hockey Conference), where he played 4 years for the Lakers. In 2008 Risi was named to the Atlantic Hockey Conference’s All-Tournament Team.
Aside from playing for the Thorold Athletics, Chris Risi works for Front Row Sports and owns PerforMax Hockey where he offers lessons to skaters of all ages and skill levels.
