Next week, the OJHL, in partnership with the City of Quinte West, will be hosting the 2017 Eastern Canada Cup All-Star Challenge from November 13-15 at the Duncan McDonald Memorial Community Gardens in Trenton, ON. The seventh annual All-Star Showcase event is being hosted for the third time by the OJHL and features 200 players, including 33 NCAA Division I commitments on 10 teams: OJHL (4) the Central Canada Hockey League (2), Maritime Hockey League (1), Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (1) and Quebec Junior Hockey League (2).

The tournament was created as a competitive alternative to the annual league All-Star Games and debuted in 2011, hosted by the CCHL’s Smiths Falls Bears. The uniquely formatted tournament is played with two 20 minute halves (instead of three periods), focusing on high-paced, intense action.

NORTH-EAST CONFERENCE
The North-East leading Wellington Dukes posted back to back shutouts last week, but only managed three points as the Whitby Fury and Dukes tied 0-0 on Friday night, and the Dukes followed that up with a 9-0 shutout over the Lindsay Muskies on Sunday. It was only fitting that Wellington and Whitby played to a 0-0 tie as the two teams have now combined for eight shutouts this season, Jonah Capriotti now has four for Wellington and Nate McDonald has three for Whitby. Elsewhere, the Kingston Voyageurs continued their recent strong play, winning all three they played last week and have now won five straight and are tied with the Aurora Tigers for third in the conference.

Five teams within six points! But as close as the top is, the next five teams are separated by only 2 points as the Orangeville Flyers have 22 points and sit in sixth place and then there is a four-way tie behind them as Buffalo, Mississauga, St. Micaheals and Burlington all have 20 points. The Jr. Canadiens had their 7-game win streak snapped in a 5-2 loss in Buffalo on Friday night and the North York Rangers’ streak of three straight is the top current streak in the conference.
