BURLINGTON, Ont. - One of the Ontario Junior Hockey League's (OJHL) top prospects has confirmed his NCAA Division I commitment this week.
Brendan Kennette of the Burlington Cougars has confirmed his commitment to join the Sacred Heart Pioneers (NCAA Division I) in Fairfield, Connecticut beginning in the 2021-22 season.
The native of the Windsor-area community of Belle River joined the OJHL's Cougars this season.
It’s been quite a rookie season.
Kennette has 21 points (five goals/16 assists) and 60 penalty minutes in 40 OJHL games this year.
One of three OJHL skaters on NHL Central Scouting’s initial 'Players to Watch List' for the 2019-20 season, he remained on the mid-season ratings released last month.
He was a member of Team Canada East that won silver at the World Jr. A Challenge in Dawson Creek, B.C. in December.
The 17-year-old defenceman had 21 points in 40 games with the Jr. B Sarnia Legionnaires and was named to the GOJHL (Western) Rookie All-Star Team last in 2018-19.
Kennette is a graduate of the Sun County Panthers AAA program.
Congratulations to Kennette and best of luck in the OJHL and NCAA.
The OJHL, the largest Jr. A hockey league in Canada, had more than 125 NCAA, U Sports, CHL and professional commitments in 2018-19 – including 65 NCAA Division I scholarships.
