EDMONTON, Alta. - The Tampa Bay Lightning are the 2020 Stanley Cup champions.
The Lightning won Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals Monday night 2-0 over the Dallas Stars. The win marks the second time the Tampa Bay Lightning have won the Stanley Cup, as the club previously won the prestigious trophy in 2004.
It was an unusual edition of the Stanley Cup playoffs due to the COVID-19 pandemic. From a 24-team playoff format to playing two months of postseason hockey in two different 'bubbles' - it was definitely a postseason to remember.
Several Ontario Hockey Association graduates will see their names engraved on the Stanley Cup as a result of Tampa Bay's victory. This includes Toronto native Barclay Goodrow (Villanova Knights, OJHL - AP) is Anthony Cirelli (Mississauga Chargers, OJHL - AP) and Lightning captain Steven Stamkos (Markham Waxers, OJHL - AP) who each saw action in the NHL playoffs. While they may not get to see their name on the Stanley Cup, former Burlington Cougars star Cory Conacher and Waxers alumni Cameron Gaunce each saw action in the regular season with the Lightning.
Here's how the Stanley Cup finalist Tampa Bay Lightning with OHA ties performed in the postseason.
