Blades offence awakes in third period; beat Flyers 3-2
It had been awhile since the Blenheim Blades had scored a Provincial Junior
Hockey League Stobbs Division goal before things changed in a big way thanks to
a huge third-period explosion to beat the Petrolia Flyers 3-2 before 274 fans at
the Blenheim arena Sunday.
The Blades had not got on the scoreboard since early in the first period a week
ago Saturday during a 5-1 loss to the Mooretown Flags. That was followed by a 7-
0 home drubbing at the hands of the Lakeshore Canadiens last Sunday night.
Things did not look good going into the third period against the Flyers, who held
a 2-0 lead thanks to a first-period goal by Curtis Helps and one in the second by
Haley Jackson Allison.
Then it all turned around with Seth Henderson getting the Blades to within one
at 7:33 of the final 20 minutes, with assists going to Christian Moccia and
Sebastian Stubberfield.
Just under three minutes later, at 10:15, Carter Wright went in along on
Petrolia goalie Tyler Richardson and tied things at 2-2 with Stubberfield and
Malcolm Campbell assisting.
With 4:17 left to play Petrolia forward Josh Jamieson laid a vicious check-from-
behind into the boards on Blades forward David Cooke that left Cooke lying on
the ice for a few minutes and Jamieson in the penalty box with a five-minute
major penalty.
Just a minute and 17 seconds later Henderson, with his fourth tally of the year,
and the Blades first powerplay marker of the season, gave Blenheim their second
win against two defeats to date.
Stubberfield, with his third assist of the night, and Ryan Malott helped out on
the game winner.
The Blades will again be idle for a week before hosting the Amherstburg
Admirals, who lost 5-4 to the Flags last night, next Sunday at 7 p.m.
