New Assistant Coach Announced
The Campbellford Rebels are extremely excited to announce our newest Assistant Coach and #REBSalumni - Marcus Pollock!
Marcus grew up in the neighbouring town of Havelock and had a pair of skates on at the age of 2. Pollock self-describes himself as being a shy kid and tells the story of his Uncle Gene telling him at 8 that enough was enough, it was time to play hockey! Marcus grew up playing minor hockey and joined the Campbellford Rebels in 1995. He played his first season as a 16 year old with coaches Trevor Tinney, Tom Tanner, and Ed Stapley. In that first season as a Rookie, Marcus gives credit to his Captain, Trevor Torrance and brothers Kevin and Cal Larmer for being strong role models and providing the advice he needed to play at the Junior C level. In fact, Marcus was recognized as Rookie of the Year! Marcus played for one more season, wearing the Rebels sweater with pride until 1997. Marcus finished his Junior C career in Colborne, as a Black Hawk.
Through his years of playing hockey, Marcus credits the sport, his coaches, trainers, and fellow players as teaching him invaluable lessons around how to be a good person, citizen, and parent. Hockey stretched Marcus to come out of his shell; to learn how to be a strong individual; to balance your ego to also be a strong team player; to respect authority which has helped him within his own career; and taught the discipline needed to make good decisions.
In 2004, Marcus moved to Campbellford with his wife, Kerry, and their two children, Cullen and Kamryn. He is proud to be a hockey parent and enjoys the fun of watching the next generation discovere their own love of the game. Marcus imparts to his son how playing hockey at the Junior C level will give him the opportunity to not only learn lessons like he did, but also to meet and make great friendships that will last throughout the years. Upon moving to Campbellford, Marcus began a decade of coaching in the Minor Hockey League: First as a Trainer, then an Assistant Coach, and eventually became the Head Coach for the Campbellford Colts. Marcus left the Colts to be the Assistant Coach for the Quinte West Minor Midgets from 2018-2019.
Marcus is looking forward to the upcoming 2020-21 Rebels season as he comes home to the club and begins his newest chapter, as the team's Assistant Coach. When we asked Marcus if he had anything more to add about being back, he said, "My mission is to bring the Rebels organization back to it's former glory and realizing the full potential of this outstanding club! I'm proud to live and coach in Campbellford, it's such a great community to be part of."
Welcome home Marcus, we can't wait to see you back in Rebels attire! Looking forward to the upcoming season and all that we'll accomplish together!
