Exeter beats Thamesford 4-2 as Thornton gets hat trick

The Thamesford Trojans could not stop the Exeter Hawks' Trevor Thornton, who tallied a hat trick in a 4-2 win.

Thornton's first goal came 8:26 into the second period. He then added goals at 19:27 into the second and at 17:52 into the third.

After the loss made the series score 2-3 in the best of seven series, Thamesford faces elimination next time out.

The Trojans were unable to stop Exeter from sending pucks towards the net, and the Hawks eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

Exeter also got points from Joe Dykstra, who also racked up one goal and one assist. In addition, Exeter received assists from Joe Metzger, who had one.

Thamesford stifled Exeter's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Trojans forced the Hawks goalie Metzger to work between the pipes, taking 56 shots.

Thamesford was helped by Andrew McLennan, who registered two goals. McLennan scored the first of his two goals at 17:27 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Thamesford. Kyle Walker picked up the assist. McLennan's next tally made the score 2-2 with 3:02 left in the third period. The Trojans had gained a power play chance when Nick Laporte was whistled for tripping. Mitch Davies provided the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Thamesford were Brad Chambers, who had one.

Metzger recorded 54 saves for Exeter. The Hawks incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Thamesford's Alex Hutcheson stopped 30 shots out of the 33 that he faced. The Trojans incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
