Exeter pulls away in second, rolls over Thamesford, 8-2

The Exeter Hawks used a six-goal second period to put away the Thamesford Trojans, 8-2.

The win by Exeter clinched the best of seven series at 4-1.

The Hawks got the win with help from a great game by Chase Thornton, who had two goals and one assist. Thornton scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 2:13 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Exeter. Exeter had gained a power play chance when Liam Billings was whistled for hooking. Matt Clarke provided the assist. Thornton's next tally on the power play made the score 5-0 Exeter with 10:41 left in the second period. Tyler Kettler picked up the assist.

The Hawks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Thamesford was unable to stop Exeter from sending pucks towards the net, and the Hawks eventually piled up 51 shots on goal.

Exeter additionally got points from Kettler, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Jon Baker, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Max Naus, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Liam Melady, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Exeter included Christopher Pfaff and Cody Perriam, who scored one goal each. More assists for Exeter came via Austin Carter, who had one and Trevor Thornton and Tyler Coleman, who contributed two each.

James Morreau recorded 26 saves for Exeter. The Hawks incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Alex Hutcheson made 43 saves for the Trojans on 51 shots. Thamesford ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. The Trojans ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Dakota Hill was ejected from the game.
