Walkerton downs Wingham in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

Brett Coulson gave the Walkerton Hawks a 4-3 (OT) victory over the Wingham Ironmen when he scored 8:11 into the extra period.

The win gave Walkerton a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Hawks came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Walkerton was down 3-1 after a goal by Wingham's Alex Kuntz at 17:26 in the first period. The Hawks knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Coulson at 7:44 in the third period.

Coulson had two goals to lead Walkerton to victory.

The Hawks stifled the Ironmen's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Others who scored for Walkerton included Josh Deyell and Tyler Cunningham, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Walkerton were Mitch Borden, Calvin Penney, and Reid Simmons, who each chipped in one.

Wingham forced Walkerton goalie Erik Angeli to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots.

The Ironmen were helped by Ryan McNeil, who registered one goal. McNeil scored 7:17 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wingham. Kuntz provided the assist. Wingham additionally got points from Kuntz, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Bailey Poels also scored for Wingham. In addition, Wingham received assists from Greg Scott and Jeremy Ross, who contributed one each.

Angeli recorded 35 saves for the Hawks. Walkerton incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Wingham's Ben Nelson stopped 23 shots out of the 27 that he faced. The Ironmen incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
