Wingham survives Mitchell comeback, wins 4-3

The Mitchell Hawks tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Wingham Ironmen held on for a 4-3 victory.

A goal by Mitch Deelstra put Wingham up 4-2 in the third period, but Mitchell pulled to within one on McKenzie Carter's tally 15:50 into the third period.

With the win, the Ironmen evened the series at 2-2 in the best of seven showdown.

Wingham was paced by Deelstra, who registered one goal. Deelstra scored 13:08 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Wingham. Matt McCracken picked up the assist.

Others who scored for Wingham included Greg Scott, Josh Stewart, and Ryan McNeil, who each put in one. In addition, Wingham received assists from Jayden Landry, JJ Harland, Greg Hansford, and Keifer MacInnes, who each chipped in one.

The Hawks forced the Ironmen goalie Ben Nelson to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

Mitchell was helped by Nic Jung, who finished with one goal. Jung scored 9:42 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Wingham. Tyler Pauli provided the assist. Mitchell also got a goal from Wil Marcy as well. More assists for Mitchell came via MacKinnon Hawkins, who had two and Zach Goodhew, Chace Duckworth, and Jake Finlayson, who contributed one each.

Nelson recorded 28 saves for Wingham. The Ironmen incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. The Hawks' Brock Baier stopped 20 shots out of the 24 that he faced. Mitchell incurred 36 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
