Woodstock falls to Paris in overtime, 5-4 (OT)
The Paris Mounties' Richard Brooks scored 41 seconds into overtime to beat the Woodstock Navy Vets, 5-4 (OT).
Paris nearly gave up a two-score lead. The Mounties made the score 4-2 on a power play goal by Keegan Alvestad at 17:36 in the second period. Woodstock got to within 4-3 on a goal by Chris Jensen at 10:33 in the third period.
Brooks had a great game for Paris, netting two goals.
Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 16:04 into the second period. Two fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.
The Navy Vets were unable to stop the Mounties from sending pucks towards the net, and Paris eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.
Paris additionally got points from Brodie Smith, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Mikael Ruffini also scored for Paris. More assists for Paris came via Mitchell Harvey, Austin Sine, and Austin Kovrig, who contributed one each and Brady Wheelans and Griffin Heitshu, who each chipped in two.
Woodstock's defense was uncharacteristically lax during the game. The Navy Vets average 2.5 goals allowed per game.
Woodstock was led by Dylan Wettlaufer, who grabbed two goals. Wettlaufer scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 16:27 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Paris. The Navy Vets had gotten the advantage when the Mounties' Garrett Kirby was sent off for fighting. Chris Thompson picked up the assist. Wettlaufer's next tally on the power play made the score 4-4 with 1:26 left in the third period. Kolby Francis assisted on the tally. Woodstock also got a goal from Chris Nauts as well. In addition, Woodstock received assists from Austin Richardson and Jack Taylor, who contributed one each.
Zach Shomphe made 26 saves for Paris on 29 shots. The Mounties totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. For Paris, Kirby was ejected from the game. Jackson Swindells recorded 28 saves for Woodstock. The Navy Vets totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play. Woodstock ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jeremy Racicot was ejected from the game.
