Vets start pre-season perfect

The Navy Vets have started their exhibition schedule off the right way.

The Vets have gone 5-0 in the preseason, with two final games before their Sept. 15 home opener against the Wellesley Applejacks.

Woodstock began their exhibition season Aug. 26 with a 9-1 victory over the Port Stanley Sailors then followed it with a 7-4 win against Port Stanley again Aug. 27. They beat the Aylmer Spitfires 6-5 in overtime Aug. 28 and won 5-2 against the Dorchester Dolphins Aug. 29. The Navy Vets got past Dorchester again Wednesday with a 7-5 win.

Woodstock has their final exhibition game Sept. 8 and then open their regular season Sept. 15.

In their Aug. 26 9-1 win over Port Stanley, the Vets outshot the Sailors 38-11 as they had two goals from Austin Richardson, three from Noah Burns, two from Austin Sine and single goals from Lucas Psenika and Warren Gorman. Gorman and Psenika each had four point nights and Chris Thompson, RIchardson and Burns also had three points each. Jack Thorpe and Connor McNamara combined for the win in net.

The Navy Vets continued their success against Port Stanley Aug. 27 in a 7-4 win. Keegan Wilkins had three goals with Warren Gorman, Noah Burns, Kurtis Christo and Kyle Walker also scoring. Walker, Wilkins and Chris Nauts had three points with Jared Prekup and Burns having two points. Ryan Steadman and Aiden Eastwood stopped 29 shots in net.

Woodstock pulled out a 6-5 overtime win Aug. 28 when they visited the Aylmer Spitfires. Kyle Walker had two goals and Kyle Baker, Noah Haig, Justin Vandendool and Chris Jensen had goals as well. Walker and Jensen had three points each with Baker adding two. Mike Harrison and Jack Thorpe had a combined 32 saves in net.

In their first of two games against the Dorchester Dolphins, the Vets won 5-2 Aug. 29with Austin Sine scoring twice then Dylan Wettlaufer, Carter Franklin and Eddie Parker also scoring. Sine had three points as Jack Taylor, Warren Gorman, Josh Woznica and Parker adding two each. Jack Thorpe and Mike Harrison combined for 30 saves.

Woodstock’s second to last exhibition game saw them beat the Dolphins Wednesday 7-5. Kyle Walker had a hat trick and Jack Taylor, Noah Burns, Dylan Wettlaufer and Justin Vandendool also scored. Walker had three points with Taylor, Vandendool and Kurtis Christo each getting two points. Aiden Eastwood and Jackson Dewar combined for 22 saves.
