Pickering holds on for 5-4 win against Kingston
The Kingston Voyageurs tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Pickering Panthers held on for a 5-4 victory.
Pickering took a 5-2 lead during the third period, only to have Kingston storm back on a Brett Seney goal 17:02 into the third period to pull to one goal down.
After the loss made the series score 1-3 in the best of seven series, the Voyageurs face elimination next time out.
The Panthers got the win with help from a great game by Mike Nedoszytko, who had two goals and one assist. Nedoszytko scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 15:33 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Pickering had gotten the advantage when Kingston's Patrick Volpe was sent off for high sticking. Michael Giacometti assisted on the tally. Nedoszytko's next tally on the power play made the score 4-2 Pickering with 14:37 left in the third period.
Pickering also had goals scored by Robert Cammalleri, Mark Tenuta, and Nicholas Lepone, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Pickering were Mason Evans, Riley Devine, and Keegan Ackerland, who contributed one a piece.
The Voyageurs forced the Panthers goalie Steven Dombrosky to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.
Kingston was led by Michael Casale, who tallied one goal and two assists. Casale scored on the power play 10:27 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Kingston. The Voyageurs had gained a power play chance when Giacometti was whistled for interference. Brett Du Puy picked up the assist. Others who scored for Kingston included Michael Stevens and Brandon OQuinn, who each put in one. More assists for Kingston came via Adam Brady, Cole Bolton, and Jarret Kup, who each chipped in one.
Steven Dombrosky made 30 saves for Pickering on 34 shots. The Panthers incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Kingston's starting goalie, Sam Tanguay, made 23 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Alex Brooks-Potts, who stopped zero shots. The Voyageurs incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
