November 3, 2014
3:45 AM EST

The Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) today unveiled the rosters for the four All-Star Teams that will compete at the 2014 (4th Annual) Central Canada Cup All-Star Challenge scheduled to take place in Toronto (Etobicoke), Ontario from November 14-16 at the MasterCard Centre for Excellence.

The four rosters consist of 80 players and includes 18 NCAA Division I commitments, as well as 11 players that competed at the 2013 Central Canada Cup that was held in Terrebonne, Quebec.

Returning from last year’s runner-up South-West Conference All-Star squad are Liam Clare and Steve Hladin (Hladin was named, but missed the event due to injury) of the Georgetown Raiders, September Player-of-the-Month Vince Figliomeni of the Mississauga Chargers, Ian Edmondson of the St. Michael’s Buzzers, Anthony Repaci of the Toronto Jr. Canadiens and Niko Kovachis of the Toronto Patriots.

Back from participating last year as members of the North-East Conference All-Star Teams are Eric Williams of the Aurora Tigers, Matt Heffernan of the Stouffville Spirit, teammates Brady Wiffen and Zach DeConcilys of the Trenton Golden Hawks, and Andrew Coupland of the Wellington Dukes.

The defending OJHL runner-up and North Division leading Aurora Tigers lead the way with nine players named to the Central Canada Cup rosters, while the always strong East Division is heavily represented as well with the Kingston Voyageurs, Wellington Dukes and Whitby Fury each placing seven players on the four rosters.  Close behind their division rivals are the Trenton Golden Hawks and Cobourg Cougars with six players each.  The defending champion Toronto (formerly Lakeshore) Patriots will send the most players from the South-West Conference with five that will represent the OJHL.

The annual weekend was created as a competitive alternative to the annual league All-Star Games and debuted in 2011, hosted by the CCHL’s Smiths Falls Bears.  The uniquely formatted tournament is played with two 20 minute halves (instead of three periods), focusing on high-paced and intense action.

This year’s event will feature nine teams from four leagues with the breakdown as follows:

•    CCHL – 2 teams
•    NOJHL – 1 team
•    OJHL – 4 teams
•    QJHL – 2 teams

The teams will be split into three pools and play a round-robin against other teams in their pool.  All teams will be re-seeded after the round-robin to determine the quarter-finals schedule with play-downs taking place to the championship game, scheduled for Sunday, November 16 at 6:00pm.
