ALL-HALTON GAME ON CHCH-TV THIS SATURDAY
A neighbourhood battle is going province-wide Saturday afternoon.
The ground-breaking Ontario Junior Hockey League broadcast partnership with CHCH-TV returns to the airwaves this weekend.
In what’s been tagged the latest “Battle of Burloak,” the Burlington Cougars visit the Oakville Blades in an all-Halton Region match-up Saturday at 3 p.m.
It’s the third of six live hockey games being broadcast by CHCH during the 2018-2019 season. The “CHCH Game of the Week” provides viewers across Ontario with thrilling Junior ‘A’ hockey action, featuring emerging local talent facing off every Saturday afternoon in rinks across the province.
The Oakville Blades (36-4-1-3) are No. 3 again in this week’s Canadian Junior Hockey League Top 20 rankings. The top team in the OJHL has clinched a playoff berth. Five Blades have NCAA Division 1 commitments.
The Burlington Cougars (21-19-2-2) are in fourth place in the OJHL’s West Division. Oakville is first. Burlington graduates include NHLers Cory Conacher, Josh Jooris and Kevin Bieksa.
The teams’ home arenas are 12 kilometres apart.
The Blades are honouring first responders and collecting donations for SickKids Hospital during the game.
Veteran junior hockey announcer Alex Bloomfield is handling play-by-play duties during the CHCH broadcasts, while Alex Bastyovanszky, host of The OJ Today, is serving as host and providing colour commentary.
The CHCH-OJHL deal also includes the broadcast of six episodes of The OJ Today, a weekly hockey magazine show featuring highlights and analysis from all games across the 22-team league.
