Former Ontario Junior Hockey League star Andrew Cogliano became the 348th player in NHL history to reach the 1,000 regular-season games played-mark this week

The Dallas Stars forward reached the plateau in Dallas’ in Toronto Thursday, just down the road from his old OJHL rink.

Cogliano is the 231st forward to reach the league-recognized milestone, while he is also one of just 30 active NHL players to do so.

His achievement will be recognized with a pre-game ceremony prior to the Stars game against the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday, Feb. 23.

Cogliano spent two seasons (2003-05) with the St. Michael's Buzzers of the OJHL in Toronto. He was the OJHL’s leading scorer in 2004-05, with 102 points (36 goals/66 assists) for the league champion Buzzers. Cogliano was selected by the Edmonton Oilers, 25th overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.[3]

Cogliano then moved to the NCAA and played two years for the University of Michigan Wolverines.

In 2006–07, he finished third on the Wolverines in scoring with 50 points in 38 games[4] and again won gold with Canada at the 2007 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships in Sweden.

He signed a professional contract on May 2, 2007, with the Oilers.

In his 13th NHL season, Cogliano, 32, has now appeared in 88 games in his second season for Dallas, 584 games in eight seasons with Anaheim, and 328 games in four seasons in Edmonton. Entering play tonight, his teams have posted a record of 502-375-122 with him in the lineup.

He has posted 396 regular-season points (164-232=396) in his career and his 19 shorthanded goals since entering the NHL in 2007-08 are seventh-most in the League. He has finished with a plus-rating in each of the last seven seasons, posting a +65 rating since the start of the 2012-13 campaign.

Cogliano has appeared in 1,000 out of a possible 1,007 regular-season games. Prior to joining the Stars, the forward had only missed two NHL contests in his entire career due to a two-game suspension (Jan. 15-17, 2018). His iron-man streak spanned the first 830 games of his career (Oct. 4, 2007 - Jan. 13, 2018) and stands as the seventh-longest games-played streak in NHL history.

He has compiled 27 points (10-17=27) in 77 Stanley Cup Playoff contests and is one of 15 active players to have qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs in each of the last seven seasons. Additionally, the forward is one of only three NHL players to have recorded a goal in each of last six postseasons.
The 5-foot-10, 175-pound native of Vaughan was acquired by Dallas via trade from Anaheim on Jan. 14, 2019 in exchange for forward fellow OJHL/NCAA product Devin Shore (Whitby Fury). Cogliano was acquired by Anaheim via trade from Edmonton on July 12, 2011 in exchange for a second-round selection in the 2013 NHL Draft.
