Dawson Ellis of the Wellington Dukes (photo credit – Ed McPherson / OJHL Images) has confirmed his commitment to join the NCAA Division 3 Adrian College Bulldogs in Adrian, Mich beginning with the 2020-21 season.

The 20-year-old from Trent Hills, ON was an alternate captain with Wellington this season.

After a stellar season of Jr. C with the Picton Pirates in 2016-17, where he was the Empire League’s Rookie of the Year with 20 goals and 24 assists in 38 games, Ellis graduated to the OJHL and played three seasons in Wellington.

The 5-foot-8, 140-pound forward had his best season offensively in the OJHL in 2019-20 – 14 goals and 27 assists, along with 84 penalty minutes, in 51 games.

Ellis played minor hockey for the Quinte Red Devils.

Wellington teammate Jacob Breckles and Chase Spencer of the OJHL’s Toronto Jr. Canadiens also made recent commitments to Adrian.

“The way they teach us to play in Wellington is ‘the right way’ and Coach (Adam) Krug believes I can fit in and play at the next level because of what I’ve achieved and learned being a Duke for the last three seasons,” Ellis told the Picton Gazette.

Congratulations to Dawson and best of luck in the NCAA!

The OJHL, the largest Jr. A hockey league in Canada, had more than 125 NCAA, U Sports, CHL and professional commitments in 2018-19 – including 65 NCAA Division I scholarships.
