COBOURG’S LOWRY COMMITS TO MARYLAND SCHOOL
Mac Lowry of the Cobourg Cougars (photo credit – Tim Bates / OJHL Images) has confirmed his commitment to join the NCAA Division III Stevenson University Mustangs in Baltimore County, Maryland beginning with the 2020-21 season.
Lowry signed with Cobourg in 2015 following his minor midget season with the Quinte Red Devils. The Cobourg resident made an immediate impact and was named the team's Rookie of the Year, after recording 27 points (13 G, 14 A) in 50 games.
During his five-year career with the Cougars, he set the franchise record for games played –– 245. Lowry’s point total places him fifth all-time for the Cougars, as well as sixth in goals and 11th in assists.
His No. 46 was retired by the Cougars prior to the end of the 2019-20 season.
“Mac's contribution to the program extends beyond his competitiveness on the ice and his role in bringing an RBC Cup national championship to Cobourg (in 2017),” the Cougars said in a statement. “Mac was also active in the community and was a leader for our organization. His presence as a mentor and role model to the rest of our club will be missed.”
"I had the privilege of coaching Mac this year, in his final season of junior hockey, and I find it difficult to fully encapsulate what he has meant to the Cobourg Cougars organization and community," said Head Coach David Demarinis. "Mac represented the Cobourg Cougars with sportsmanship, class and competitiveness. We wish him well as he embarks on this new chapter in his life and hockey career."
Congratulations to Mac and best of luck in the NCAA!
