OJHL GRAD LUKE PEARSON SNARES ECAC GOALTENDING AWARD
A former award-winning Ontario Junior Hockey League player is up to his old tricks at the NCAA Division I level.
Sophomore Luke Pearson of the Yale Univeristy’s men's hockey team was named the ECAC Co-Goaltender of the Week yesterday.
Last weekend, the Whitby, Ont. native, was 1-0-1 in between the pipes. He had a 4-1 win for his New Haven, Connecticut school over RPI on Jan. 13 and then a scorelesss draw against Union on Jan. 14. He posted a .980 save percentage and had 49 saves during the two-game stretch.
Pearson played two seasons for the Whitby Fury (now the Haliburton County Huskies) in the OJHL.
In 2017-18, he played 23 games as a 16-year-old rookie, posting a .908 save percentage and a 3.27 GAA. He was named rookie of the year by the franchise.
In 2018-19, he had a .938 save percentage and a 1.94 GAA, The Fury MVP was voted to the OJHL second team All-Prospect and named runner-up for goalie of the year in the 22-team league.
Pearson’s father, Rob Pearson, is head coach and general manager of the defending OJHL champion and 2022 national finalist Pickering Panthers. The six-year NHLer was head coach of the Fury from 2017-19. He was named national Jr. A coach of the year last spring.
Yale hosts Harvard on Friday, Jan. 20.
