DYLAN BLY NAMED JOSTENS OJHL SCHOLASTIC PLAYER OF YEAR
April 12, 2023, Mississauga, ON – …. Dylan Bly of the Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Toronto Jr. Canadiens is the OJHL’s Jostens Scholastic Player of the Year for 2022-23, the league announced today.
Bly maintained a 94-per-cent average in Grade 12 at The Anne & Max Tanenbaum Community Hebrew Academy of Toronto while taking a full course load this school year.
“Combining his strong academics with a great rookie year at the Junior A level, Dylan has been an exemplary student/athlete,” said Jr. Canadiens General Manager Blake Ricci. “Dylan did not miss a practice all season while being able to manage his time for homework on a nightly basis.”
The 17-year-old defenceman had seven assists during 45 OJHL games this season for the regular season champions from Toronto. He played the previous three seasons with the Jr. Canadiens U18 team, the Don Mills Flyers U16s and the Mississauga Rebels U15s.
“From Day 1, the OAs welcomed us younger guys and really took us under their wing,” Bly told the OJHL. “We were such a tight-knit group and I learned so much. It truly was a great environment. Everyone wanted to get better every day, which made it so much fun. And the coaches went above and beyond to ensure that it happened.”
How does one maintain such a high scholastic average while playing junior hockey? Dylan thanks his parents, Janice and Jeff Bly.
“From a young age, they really taught me how to manage my time and utilize resources,” the Toronto resident said. “So really take advantage of tutoring, study hall and extra help. And stay on top of things while playing such a high level of competitive sport.”
Bly will take next year off school and return to the Jr. Canadiens with hopes of earning an NCAA Division I commitment. He’s undecided on a postsecondary major but it will likely have a business focus.
Bly will be honoured along with the other OJHL award recipients at a ceremony during the OJHL Nutrafarms Championship Series in late April. The OJHL is announcing its 2022-23 award winners throughout the first three rounds of the playoffs.
Runner-up for Jostens Scholastic Player of the Year was Jay Feldberg, another 17-year-old from the Junior Canadiens. The rookie centre currently attends Upper Canada College.
TOMORROW: Rookie of the Year
About Jostens
The year was 1897. It was then, that a jewelry repairman by the name of Otto Josten started helping high school students preserve the memory of their most important moments. And thus began the inception of a cultural icon. Since then, generation after generation has celebrated life's milestone moments with Jostens. From a preschooler's graduation cap, to a high school student's class ring and yearbook, to a pro athlete's championship ring, the stories behind these milestones have come to define us all.
Jostens is the supplier of rings to annual award winners in the Ontario Junior Hockey League.
