MUISE NAMED SUNYAC PLAYER OF WEEK
Former Brampton Capital and Oakville Blade forward Chris Muise (photo courtesy of Oswego State Athletics), now with the Oswego State University Lakers, was named SUNYAC Player of the Week for his recent playoff performance this past weekend.
The Oakville, Ontario native joined the Brampton Capitals as a 17-year old rookie in 2005-06 and would spend the next three and a half seasons with the Caps. After only recording 15 points during his rookie seasons, Muise would jump to 22 goals and 50 points in 2006-07 to finish sixth on the club in scoring and would notch another 38 assists and 54 points, second and third respectively on the Captials, the following year. After three years of short playoff runs and dominent start to 2008-09 with 24 goals and 50 points in 36 games played, Muise was traded back to his hometown Blades for their playoff run. Along with playing in the 2009 OJHL Senior All-Star Game for the MacKinnon-Phillips Team, he would finish fifth in scoring on the powerful Blades with 29 goals and 73 points. He would continue that impressive play into the playoffs, notching 22 points as the defending champion fell in six games to the Kingston Voyageurs in the league championship.
Below is the official press release from the Oswego State Athletics website (www.athletics.oswego.edu):
Oswego State men's ice hockey players Chris Muise (Sr., Oakville, Ontario) and Andrew Hare (Sr., Burlington, Ont.) have been named the SUNY Athletic Conference Men's Ice Hockey Player and Goaltender of the Week for the week ending February 24, 2013. The top-seeded Lakers defeated No. 4-seed Buffalo State, 5-2, in a SUNYAC Semifinal to punch Oswego State's ticket in the SUNYAC Championship game for the third time in four years.
Muise netted two goals in the second period for his eighth and ninth goals of the season. Both markers came at pivotal points in the game when his first goal came after the Bengals nearly tied the score on a breakaway. Muise's second goal on a power play to give Oswego State a 4-1 lead, and was scored less than a minute after a Buffalo State goal was waved off in the second period.
Hare tallied 33 saves en route to posting his 18th win of the season. Hare came up with big glove save on a shot during a breakaway that would have resulted in a short-handed Bengal goal tying the score in the second period. With Buffalo State trailing by two goals in the third period, Hare withstood a pressing Bengal offense trying to cut into the lead.
