CARRICK SIGNS WITH BARRIE

Stouffville Spirit rookie defenceman Josh Carrick (photo credit - Amy Deroche/OJHL Images) has officially signed and will join the OHL's Barrie Colts for the 2013-14 season.

The Stouffville, Ontario native joined his hometown club last season after playing for the Markham Majors Minor Midget 'AAA' squad in 2011-12 and being selected by the Colts in the 7th round, 142nd overall, of the OHL Priority Selection.  Following in the footsteps of his older brother, Carrick had a memorable rookie campaign that would see him compete in the CJHL Prospects Game in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia as a member of Team East, as well as with the OJHL Prospects that defeated the CCHL 1-0 in a shootout at the Central Canada Cup All-Star Challenge held in Wellington, Ontario.  On the Spirit's backend, Carrick posted seven points in 51 regular season games played.

Stouffville’s Carrick family is four-for-four.

Defenceman Josh Carrick has signed with the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League, according to the Stouffville Spirit’s Twitter account.

All three of Josh’s brothers have played in the OHL,

Josh, Barrie’s seventh round pick (142nd overall) in 2012 draft, played for the Spirit in the Ontario Junior Hockey League last season.

Josh played in the Canadian Junior Hockey League’s Prospects Game in Yarmouth, N.S. in November.

The previous year, he played for Canada’s entry at 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Austria as a member of the Markham Majors minor midgets.

Oldest brother Jake, 22, spent four seasons with the Soo Greyhounds and Windsor Spitfires in the OHL. He’s played the last two seasons for the Lakehead University Thunderwolves in Thunder Bay.

Sam, 21, played four years with the Brampton Battalion. A fifth-round selection of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2010 NHL draft, he finished last season with the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League.

Sam is scheduled to play in a rookie tournament hosted by the Leafs in London, Ont, starting Thursday.

Trevor, 19, the other defenceman in the family, also played a season for the Jr. A Spirit before signing with the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors (now Steelheads) two years ago. He was a fourth-round NHL pick (115th overall) of the Carolina Hurricanes.

Trevor is on the Canes roster for the 2013 NHL Prospects Tournament beginning Thursday in Traverse City, Mich.
