HAWKS RALLY AND TOP JR CANADIENS IN 2OT

October 28, 2019
1:50 PM EDT

The Golden Hawks travelled to Toronto on Sunday night to take on the Jr. Canadiens in the clubs first match of the season.

The Jr. Canadiens opened the scoring in the 2nd period when the Fedak, Falls and Spencer all scored for Toronto in a 3 and a half minute span to blow the game open. Ryan Bigler (South Lyon, MI) would get the Golden Hawks on the board before the end of the period.

The Jr. Canadiens would restore their 3-goal lead in the 3rd scoring early to make it 4-1. However, an unwise penalty gifted the Golden Hawks a 6-minute powerplay and the GHawks got to work cutting down the lead. Adam Kim (Kingston, ON) got things rolling with the first of two powerplay goals. Sam Duchesne (Brampton, ON) and D'Artagnan Joly (Gatineau, QC) recorded the assists, which was Joly's first since being acquired by the Hawks. Jared Gerger (Greensburg, PA) would add a second powerplay marker, assisted by Julien Jacob (Courtice, ON) and Wyatt George (Pittsburgh, PA), to bring the Golden Hawks within one.

With 2:05 left to play in regulation, Sam Duchesne fired a point shot on goal which eluded the Jr. Canadiens netminder to tie things up at 4. Dylan McMahon (Kanata, ON) and Griffen Fox (Brantford, ON) got the assists on the play tieing goal.

4-on-4 Overtime solved nothing, so 3-on-3 overtime was called for. Sam Duchesne found Wyatt George for a stretch pass that sent George on a breakaway well behind the Jr. Canadiens defence. George made no mistake and ended the game, final score Golden Hawks 5 Jr. Canadiens 4.

Oliver Troop (Kentville, NS) started the game in goal for the Golden Hawks and made 28 saves on 32 shots for the victory.

The Golden Hawks next home game is on Friday, November 8th when we take on the Stouffville Spirit, and that Sunday, November 10th when the Golden Hawks will commemorate Remembrance Day as we take on the Wellington Dukes. Tickets are available at the links below:
