HAWKS FINISH FURY, TAKE SERIES IN 5 GAMES
The Trenton Golden Hawks returned to The Hangar for Game 5 of our South-East Conference Quarterfinal Series vs the Whitby Fury. The Fury were able to stave off a potential sweep, taking Game 4 on Friday in Whitby; but the Golden Hawks were determined to book our ticket to the 2nd Round of the Buckland Cup Playoffs.
The Fury wouldn't make it easy on the Golden Hawks, coming out strong to start the first period and scoring in under 30-seconds to take the early lead. Undeterred the Golden Hawks would push back, outshooting the Fury 14 to 7 in the first period. The persistence would be rewarded later on in the period as Cameron Gaylor (Toronto, ON) would strike to tie things up at 1. Dalton Bancroft (Madoc, ON) would assist on the tieing goal that would send the teams into the 2nd period at a stalemate.
The second period would begin much like the first, but this time it was the Golden Hawks who would strike early as Wyatt George (Pittsburgh, PA) would give the Golden Hawks the lead to start the 2nd. The G-Hawks would hold the lead until the second half, but the Fury wouldn't go down without a fight and would tie things up 14 minutes into the 2nd. The tie would not last long as Andrew Suriuyuth (Kingston, ON) and Adam Kim (Kingston, ON) would add a pair of goals before the period was done to give the Golden Hawks a 4-2 lead going into a decisive third.
The Golden Hawks would hold the Fury at bay in the third, limiting them to just 9 shots in the period and outshooting them once again. Tyler Nielsen (Ridgewood, NJ) and Aaron Jamieson (Kingston, ON) would add a pair of insurance markers in the third in order to seal the series.
Anand Oberoi (Kanata, ON) would backstop the Golden Hawks to the series-clinching win, stopping 22 of 24 Whitby shots.
With the win, the Golden Hawks will advance to take on the Wellington Dukes in the South-East Conference Semi-Finals. Dates and tickets for the 2nd Round series will be announced when determined.
