Benjamin Pruneau Inks Contract with the Ottawa Junior Senators
OTTAWA- Head Coach and General Manager Martin Dagenais is proud to announce the signing of Benjamin Pruneau. The former Gatineau Intrepid will suit up with the Junior Sens for the upcoming season. The Gatineau, QC native amassed 12 goals and 15 assists for a total of 27 points in 46 games last year in the Midget AAA loop. He will certainly add to Ottawa’s depth at the forward position.
“The Ottawa Jr. Sens have an excellent hockey program and they have had great success in the last few years. They also provide tremendous exposure to NCAA and CIS programs” added Pruneau. “ I am proud to join their team and to start a new adventure which will allow me to acquire great experience and help further my development as a hockey player.”
Pruneau was the lastest free agent to sign during the team’s camp in June but according to coach Dagenais, the timing of the signing means little.
“I believe Benjamin is the type of player who becomes better every time you lay eyes on him. The subtleties in his game grow on you. He might not be flashy but he plays the right way. He doesn’t cheat and plays a very complete game. His approach fits in nicely into our team’s style of play. I have no doubt that he will have an important role on our club next season.”
Pruneau has expressed similar thoughts as he vows to help the Junior Sens by being a responsible player who can contribute in all three zones of the ice.
“I’m a versatile player who understands the importance of being a good two-way guy. I’m able to create scoring chances in the offensive zone while maintaning a defense-first mentality. My vision, speed and physical play are my main attributes.”
The 17 year-old winger, who will celebrate his birthday in mid-July, would love nothing more than to help the Junior Sens go all the way this year.
“My short term goal is to help this team win the Bogart Cup. That being said, my obvious long term goal is to earn a scholarship to play at an American or Canadian University and to continue my playing career."
Pruneau, along with the rest of the Junior Sens will start their season Saturday September 3rd at the Bell Sensplex in Kanata as part of the annual CCHL showcase, Ottawa will face off against the reigning league champions, the Carleton Place Canadians. Puck drops at 4:30pm

Ottawa - L'entraîneur-chef et gérant des Sénateurs, Martin Dagenais, est fier d'annoncer que Benjamin Pruneau, un ancien de l'Intrépide de Gatineau, s'alignera avec l'équipe dès la saison prochaine. Pruneau, originaire de Gatineau au Québec a marqué 12 buts et et récolté 15 mentions d'aide pour un total de 27 points en 46 parties la saison dernière au niveau Midget AAA. Il apportera donc de la profondeur à une formation déjà nantie à l'attaque.
"Les Sénateurs d'Ottawa ont un excellent programme de hockey et ils connaissent beaucoup de succès depuis quelques années. De plus, ils évoluent dans un circuit qui offfe une belle vitrine pour le hockey universitaire, a mentionné Pruneau. Je suis très fier de me joindre à cette équipe et débuter une nouvelle aventure qui m'apportera beaucoup d'expérience comme joueur de hockey."
Pruneau a été un des derniers joueurs signés lors du camp du mois de juin, mais selon Dagenais, ça ne veut pas dire grand chose.
"Je pense que Benjamin est le genre de joueur que l'on apprend à aimer après l'avoir vu à l'oeuvre à quelques occasions. Il n'a pas un talent exceptionnel mais tout ce qu'il fait, il le fait de la bonne façon. Il ne triche pas et il est déjà très complet comme joueur pour un gars qui n'a pas joué une seule partie au niveau junior. Son style de jeu cadre parfaitement à notre équipe et il aura un rôle important au sein de notre équipe dès la saison prochaine."
Pruneau est du même avis. Il compte aider les Sénateurs en étant responsable dans les trois zones.
"Je suis un joueur polyvalent et je comprend l'importance d'être bon dans les deux sens de la patinoire. Je suis capable de créer des chances de marquer en zone offensive mais je serai toujours responsable en zone défensive. Ma vision du jeu, ma vitesse et ma robustesse sont mes atouts principales."
L'ailier droit de 17 ans qui fêtera son dix-huitième anniversaire de naissance à la mi-juillet aimerait bien aider les Sénateurs à se rendre jusqu'au bout cette fois-ci.
"Mes objectifs à court terme sont d'aider mon équipe à gagner le championnat de la ligue, c'est-à-dire la coupe Bogart. D'un côté plus personnel, c'est certain que mon but est d'obtenir une bourse d'étude dans une université américaine ou canadienne et de continuer ma carrière d'hockeyeur."
Pruneau et les Sénateurs débuteront la saison le samedi, 3 septembre alors qu'ils affronteront Carleton Place à compter de 16h30 au Bell Sensplex de Kanata dans le cadre du showcase annuel de la CCHL.
