Mars and Hempfield skate to 2-2 (OT) tie

Hempfield rebounded from a two-goal deficit to tie Mars, 2-2 (OT).

Mars excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Mars could not produce up to its normal offensive output. Mars puts an average of 6.3 pucks into the net per game. Mars forced Hempfield goalie Garet Ciaramella to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots.

Mars was led by Paul Maust, who had two goals. Maust scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 2:45 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Mars. Mars had taken the advantage when Hempfield's Bench got sent off for too many men. Ian Houk-Graves picked up the assist. Maust's next tally on the power play made the score 2-0 Mars with 4:55 left in the second period. Owen Vasbinder provided the assist. In addition, Mars received assists from Tyler Spreng and Beau Heakins, who contributed one each.

Hempfield's offense operated below its season average. Hempfield averages 5.8 goals per game.

Hempfield was helped by Nick Koziara, who finished with one goal and one assist. Koziara scored 7:53 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Christian Gorscak assisted on the tally. Hempfield additionally got points from Luke Rosendal, who also registered one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Hempfield were Andrew Koziara, who had one.

Spreng recorded 18 saves for Mars. Mars incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Garet Ciaramella made 43 saves for Hempfield on 45 shots. Hempfield incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
