Mars wins tough contest against Hempfield, 3-2
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, Mars escaped with a 3-2 victory over Hempfield.
Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and William Scurci's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.
Scurci had a great game for Mars, netting two goals.
Mars' offense operated below its season average. Mars averages 5.7 goals per game. Mars could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.
Mars also got a goal from Andrew Norris as well. In addition, Mars received assists from Jonathan Kowalkowski, who had two and Michael McCann, Ryan Wasylson, Jared Taylor, and Tyler Grau, who contributed one each.
Hempfield was helped by Mario Colosi, who racked up one goal. Colosi scored on the power play 14:04 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Hempfield had gained a power play chance when Patrick Roach was whistled for boarding. Kane Mills assisted on the tally. Jacob Anderson also scored for Hempfield. More assists for Hempfield came via Matthew Bartus and Connor Monzo, who each chipped in one.
Tyler Spreng recorded 16 saves for Mars. Mars registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Hempfield's Chris Negich stopped 23 shots out of the 26 that he faced. Hempfield incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
